Eight beautiful original hand coloured aqua-tints, framed and glazed, laid onto board. Each in early 20th century wooden frames, with original titled dedication label to 'His Grace the Duke of Beaufort' to the rear, and later Tryon Gallery label just below. A full set of this great series published as a set in 1833. It was a work of collaboration between Alken, the professional artist, and Hodges as a Dorset amateur. It was eulogised on publication, and has always been regarded as one of the finest series of fox hunting plates of the period. Scarce, no other full set on the market at the time of cataloguing, and not seen at auction since 2012. Plate 1 Going Out of Kennel. Plate 2 Finding (in a bog). Plate 3 Coursers tying up their dogs, fearful of spoiling sport. Plate 4 Crossing the River Avon. Plate 5 The chase. Plate 6 Hold hard. Plate 7 The death and the treeing. Plate 8 The return home. All in excellent bright condition, just occasional light browning spots, predominantly only in the top third of each image. Frame of plate 1 damaged to the rear.
