Original endpapers and half title with decorative border. Vignette to title page and embellishment to headers. Errata page to rear. Front board detached. Moderate rubbing to cover and spine, bumping to corners. Gilt tooling to spine dulled. Scuff marks and small lifting to lower spine. Pages toned but with little to no foxing or spotting; remarkably clean and intact for the age. Cracking to rear gutter. What appears to be early ink writing to rep. Overall fair to good condition. viii + 311 + I pp. Published anonymously but attributed to Joseph Addison (1672-1719) who was an English essayist, poet, playwright and politician. Addison was co-founder of 'The Spectator'. This book contains 50 of his popular essays. Published the same year as the large paper edition, this is the first duodecimo edition.
