Stanley (1841-1904) is a Welsh-American explorer who is best known for his search for David Livingstone in central Africa. The author is Mary Anne Hearn [pseud. Marianne Farningham or Eva Hope] (1834-1909) who was a British feminist writer who emerged from the lower classes.
