Published in 1863 an early copy with the first being published in 1861. Marble paper covered boards with black cloth spine which although sound are worn with some loss to the corners, the spine has several splits especially along the top edge and to the front outer hinge. Binding weak. The front and rear free end-papers as well as the frontispiece and prelims are missing. Title page still present although chipped to the edges. Pages toned with a little chipping to some of the pages, staining and a little foxing throughout. Illustrated with nine coloured plates which are slightly stained with repair to the verso of one, and many black and white line drawings throughout. pp. xxxix + 1112. An early copy of this iconic book in fair condition only, with provenance from the Beeton Family from Major Beeton's private library.
