First Edition. Beautifully bound in full red cloth with gilt decorated front board and spine and bevelled edges. In overall good condition despite fading and some discolouration. Spine has faded with wear along the outer hinges and to the top and base. Binding weak with cracking to the internal hinges. All edges of the text block gilt. Presentation label to the front paste down dated 1900. Pages toned with the occasional spot of foxing although generally clean throughout. Small closed tears to the margins of the text to pages 2, 13 & 15. Illustrated with full page monochrome frontispiece, vignette to the title page and several more throughout. pp. 430. Charming copy.
