Forget Me Not: A Christmas and New Year's Present for 1826

First edition. A gorgeously illustrated capsule of history in the form of the third year of the first literary annual in English. Features 14 engraved plates and a presentation plate. Original, very beautiful green glazed paper-covered boards a lightly worn to edges, lifting of paper cover to hinge at head of spine. Corners a little bumped, though not too noticeable. Small wear marks to boards commensurate with age and material. Spine is worn to hinges but otherwise in lovely condition. Accompanied by the original cardboard sleeve with matching labels, also in vivid green. Some discolouration to raw paper base of sleeve and a mark to back, but in good condition; well preserved. Lovely bright gilt to all edges of text block. Internally, front pastedown bears previous owners label of ownership - 'Francis Gray Smart'. Pictorial inscription page shows personal note addressed to Georgiana Wallis. A little damage to spine at this page - textblock is a little loose from boards, but still well attached. Attractive frontispiece depicts Finden engraving, 'Contemplation', with original tissue guard. Extremely small amount of foxing to verso of frontispiece. Printing is clean and bright throughout, with no faults - structure sound. Overall, a very elegant edition with wonderfully vivid boards. Would make an unusual and thoughtful gift.
