Edition: Early Edition
Published By: Printed at the Chiswick Press by C. Whittingham
A good early set of this popular classic. Uniformly bound in half tan leather with marble paper covered boards, gilt titles and ruled decoration to the spine. The leather is a little rubbed and worn and the gilt has faded. The binding however is generally in good condition. Previous owners' pen signature and date "1944" to the front free endpaper to both volumes. Pages are clean throughout despite the occasional spot of foxing especially to the prelims and towards the rear. Vignette to the title page with several illustrations with in the text throughout. Volume I, pp. xvi + 392. Volume II, pp. 360. A charming set.
