First Edition Hard Back. Translated by Nancy Bell. Both volumes handsomely bound in brown cloth with small gilt pictorial to the front, gilt vignette and titles to the spine. Volume I, is in very good condition with just a little surface wear to the rear. Volume II, has some fading to the front and rear boards, spine is creased with a slight lean. Internally the binding is still tight to both volumes. Page 107 to volume I has a small piece missing to the top left hand corner although not missing and fixed to the the top page of 106. While there is some heavy foxing throughout this is predominately to the rear and the pages in general remain clean and in good condition. Beautifully illustrated with many line drawings. Large folding maps to the rear of each volume have been sympathetically reinforced with cloth. Volume I, pp. xx + 435. Volume II, pp. xii + 397. Overall a good set. An African Adventure at its Finest.
