Taylor and Skinner's Maps of the Roads of Ireland Surveyed 1777

George Taylor and Andrew Skinner

Edition: First of this Edition

Published By: Published for The Authors as the Act directs 14th Nov. 1778

First Edition of this Edition. An unusual envelope style "pocket" edition bound in full black leather. Engraved title page with large folding map of Ireland with a further 288 pages of engraved road maps plus a subscriber's list to the rear. In overall good condition considering the age of the book. The leather is a little worn with cracking along the fore-edge and a piece missing to the top and base, the spine shows a little loss of leather. There are previous owners' hand written notation to the front and rear endpapers and to the verso of the rear free endpaper. The folding map to the front although complete does show some chipping and wear to the extremities while the folding lines to the underside have been reinforced with professional tape. Two very small pieces are missing along the fore-edge to pages ix and xi. and there are two map pages with a little coloured pencil notation. The rest of the pages are intact and although toned, consistent with the age of the book, they are clean. The sixteen page list of subscriber's to the rear demonstrates the great need and widespread use of this important work. A wonderful copy
