Hardback. The definitive edition of Lord Bacon's works selected and edited by James Spedding in seven volumes with the eighth volume of Bacon's Essays by Richard Whately. All volumes are library bindings with half black leather and black cloth boards. All volumes show a little wear and loss to the leather with volumes seven and eight a little more pronounced than the others with the front outer hinges splitting. These are library bindings so internally they all have the remains of labels to the front endpapers and the occasional ink stamp. The pages however are generally clean. The text block remains tight even though volume six has a little internal cracking to the gutter. Volumes i to iii contain The Philosophical Works, volumes iv & v Translations, while vi & vii contain Literary and Professional Works. Overall a good set. This set is heavy and may require extra shipping.
