The Train: A First-Class Magazine Vol. II From July to December 1856 Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll

Edition: First

Published By: S O Beeton

An exceptionally rare anthology containing the second printing of Lewis Carroll's (pseudonym Charles Dodgson) story 'Novelty and Replacement - A Broken Spell' (published before Alice In Wonderland) and illustrated by William M'Connell as well as Lewis Carroll's 'The Three Voices'. Beautiful half leather with marbled boards and six panels to the spine with raised banding and gilt titles on burgundy. All edges are marbled to match boards and sumptuous endpapers. Pages are bright with illustrations throughout and occasional small marks and foxing. The rear of the front free endpaper has an abrasion and a pencilled number. The large illustration on p.93 is imprinted on the opposite page, but this does not impede the reading experience. The soft leather has rubbed in places, including a little on the spine. Mild wear to the extremities as well as abrasions to the boards. A tight binding. pp.384. Very good. A remarkably well-preserved copy essential for Lewis Carroll collectors.
