First Edition Hardback. Handsomely bound in the publisher's original deep brown cloth with blind embossed detail to the boards and gilt titles to the spine. The cloth is a little worn with small pieces missing to the spine. Slight lean to the spine. Internally the binding is still tight despite a little cracking to the internal hinges. The yellow endpapers show a pencil notation to the front free endpaper while there is a previous owner's signature and date, 1852, to the top of the title page. The rest of the pages are remarkably clean considering the age of the book. pp. vi + 489. Harriet Beecher Stowe was an author and abolitionist. Uncle Tom's Cabin depicts the harsh conditions experienced by enslaved African Americans and became influential in the United States and in Great Britain energizing anti-slavery forces in the American North.
