Hard back. The front and rear boards are both worn with some markings, especially around the extremities. The front board retains its embossed symbol. The spine is worn, especially along the top and bottom edges, and is rather faded, with the gilt titles no longer bright but still clean. Internally, the spine is slightly cracked. The front free end papers include a pencil inscription belonging to a previous owner, and are a little toned and darkened in places. The half title page and final page of the index are very toned. The title and frontispiece map are covered by a tissue guard and remain clean. The pages are faded throughout, with occasional foxing, but the text remains readable, and the numerous illustrations are clear. pp. x + 140. Overall, a good copy of a fascinating piece of historical research, comprised of the history of Catholic persecution, with a focus on a localised setting.
