Hard back. The front board is rather worn, especially to the extremities, the silver gilt design is a little faded but still clear. The rear board is also worn, with numerous markings. The spine is worn, with tears in the top and bottom edges, but the gilt title remains clear. The edges of the pages, especially the top, are very faded and worn. Internally, the spine is cracked on the bottom edge upwards. There is some foxing throughout the front and rear free end papers, and an ink inscription belonging to a previous owner in the front. Slight foxing and small pencil marks to the title page, but the frontispiece remains very bright and clean. Small pencil marks and slightly foxed throughout, but the text remains readable. pp. 240. Overall, a fine copy of this classic children's story, beautifully illustrated throughout, including a number of brightly coloured plates.
