Hardback 1896. Translated From The Second German Edition. All six volumes uniformly bound in dark green cloth with gilt titles and detail to the front and gilt titles to the spines. All edges of the text block gilt. Beautifully illustrated with chromolithographic plates, folding map, and many black and white line drawings within the text. The binding is a little worn and discoloured while internally although the pages show the occasional spot of foxing they are generally clean. There is a little cracking to the internal hinges and the front free endpaper is loose to volume six, the binding however, is still fairly tight. Overall a good set. Originally published in English as a three volume set in 1896, the set was renown for its remarkable chromolithographic plates.
