Hardback. First Edition. Published by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press, 1931. Bound in the publisher's original purple cloth with titles in gilt to the spine. The cloth is in a lovely clean condition although lightly faded to the extremities. The spine has darkened with fading to the gilt, minor shelf wear to the top and base. There is a very slight lean to the spine. There is some foxing to the prelims and through to page 23 in varying degrees, with a little foxing to the rear prelims. The pages otherwise are beautifully clean and show no inscriptions. pp. 325. A beautiful copy. Hailed as Woolf's masterpiece the novel follows its six narrators from childhood to adulthood. The characters are thought to be based on E.M. Forster, T.S. Eliot, Lytton Strachey, Mary Hutchinson and Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell.
