Hardback. Handsomely bound in half burgundy leather with marble paper-covered boards with ornate gilt decoration to the spine. The leather is a little rubbed and worn with light surface wear to the boards and fading to the spine. All edges of the text block coloured red and still quite bright. The binding is tight to all volumes with marble endpapers. There is foxing to the prelims and occasionally throughout although the pages are generally clean. It is replete with many illustrations by the author and accompanied by a red ribbon bookmark to each volume. Overall a beautiful set. The titles include Vanity Fair and The Christmas Books. William Makepeace Thackeray was an English novelist and illustrator and was known particularly for his satirical work Vanity Fair.
