First Edition. The original monthly parts as issued December 1855 to June 1857, lacking part I, part 15 and part 20. In twenty parts with volumes XIX and XX bound together as a double-decker. Original blue printed covers with plates illustrated by H.K. Browne. The binding is fragile with darkening to the plates although the pages are generally clean. Part I Missing. Part II is missing pages 13 & 14 the plates to the front and the adverts to the rear. Part IV, has the rear cover missing, There are two copies of Part V. Part VI the front cover is missing as well as pages 184-185. Part X The rear cover is missing and the last page, an advertisement, has a quarter of it's page missing. Part XI The front cover is missing. Part XIV Is missing the rear cover. Part XV Missing. Part XVIII The rear cover is missing and Part XIX is missing the front cover as well as part XX which was issued together with part XIX as a double-decker. The adverts to the front and rear are present unless mentioned. Part V to the rear has a 16 page booklet " A Sketch of the Political History of the Past Three Years in Connexion with The Press Newspaper" dated 1856. To the rear of part VI "Crystal Palace"  Season 1856 programme, Part VII adverts to the rear include "Important Family Medicine". Part XIII "Christmas And Winter Evening's Enjoyment" located to the rear. Part XVI contains an error slip from the publisher regarding a mistake made in part XV. Little Dorrit was originally published in monthly instalments over nineteen months with two plates to each part and four plates to volumes XIX and XX, illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne or "Phiz" as he was known. Little Dorrit follows the story of Amy Dorrit who was born and raised in the Marshalsea debtor's prison. The novel satirizes the short fallings of the government and society including the institution of the debtor's prison where Dicken's own father had been imprisoned. A fair copy although unusual to see in the original form.
