Paper covers. 1939 Second edition, complete with the original envelope with Holly printed design to the front. Pictorial white paper covers in good condition despite light wear to the extremities. Decorative endpapers with full page colour frontispiece and vignette to the title page with several more line drawings within the text, beautifully illustrated by Arthur Rackham. The pages are clean with no foxing or inscriptions, a few of the page edges have been uncut. The envelope has a few small closed tears and light wear to the extremities. Overall a good copy. Would make an ideal gift. Originally published in 1841 for Effie Gray whom John Ruskin later married it was first advertised as a fairy tale and became a Victorian best seller, the original was illustrated by Richard Doyle. This later edition is illustrated by Arthur Rackham.
