Edition: First Edition
Illustrated By: I.W. Taber
Published By: Macmillan And Co., Limited
First Edition Hardback. Beautifully bound in rich blue cloth with gilt pictorial and titles to the front, gilt titles and vignette to the spine. The binding shows no loss and very little wear with just light shelf wear to the top and base of the spine, however, there is some discolouration. There is a slight lean to the spine with some fading. All edges of the text block are gilt and still fairly bright. The text block is a little weak with cracking to the gutter, although there are no loose pages. There is a previous owner's bookplate to the front paste down and an ink signature to the top of the half title page, light loss to the rear endpapers and to the base of page 5. A few of the page corners are creased with the occasional spot of foxing. The pages, however, are generally clean throughout and illustrated by I.W. Taber. pp. viii + 245 + publisher's page. Overall a good copy. This work of Rudyard Kipling is the only one set entirely in The United States
