Hardback. A stunning set of the complete works of William Shakespeare with illustrations by E.J. Sullivan. A reprint of the 1911 edition by J.M. Dent and Sons. Consisting of Comedies, Tragedies, Histories and Poems. An almost fine set in full polished calf by Riviere and Son, London. The spines have 5 raised bands with gilt decorated compartments with a red leather title band in gilt and a similiar sized brown author label. The front and rear boards are decorated with a gilt ruled border with decorative dentelles to the interior. Marbled endpapers. There is a prize book plate to the front free endpaper on Comedies only. Each volume is illustrated by E.J. Sullivan, one of the leading illustrators of the day in black and white photogravure, with each illustration with a captioned tissue guard. Internally fine with no marks, writing or foxing, all hinges tight. Externally the binding is in near fine condition with just a few tiny rubs and light surface loss, hardly noticeable. Overall a superb set. Would make an ideal gift.
