A white half leather three volume set by Victorian writer William Howitt, each with green marbled boards and vivid gilt top to the text blocks. Very fine gilt floral decoration to six panels on each spine giving the set a uniform aesthetic, and with extra gilt bordering to the title panels. Marbled endpapers echo the board design, and pages are clean with a few exceptions, pencil mark to Volume I title page rear, and a neat inscription dated 1889 in all volumes which has imprinted on the next page somewhat. Boards have minimal wear, rubbing to the extremities. Volume I: Visits to Remarkable Places with Illustrations by Samuel Williams, slight tear to the title panel, pp.vii+528, Volume II: Visits to Remarkable Places (Vol II) with woodcuts by Carmichael, Richardsons, and Taylor pp.xi+610. Volume III: The Rural Life of England illustrated by Bewick and S. Williams, pp.xxiv+615. Very good.
