Hardback. The St Martin's Illustrated Library of Standard Authors. A collection of ten superb novels written by Jane Austen and beautifully illustrated by A. Wallis Mills. All volumes are bound in pale cream cloth with gilt titles to the front and spine. The binding is generally clean and bright with just a touch of foxing to the last volume, Persuassion. The spines however have darkened over time. The top edge is gilt and has dulled. Internally the text block is tight with the exception of Persuassion which has a little cracking to the front hinge. The pages are lightly toned with foxing throughout, heavier to the prelims and towards the rear. The pages, however, are generally clean. Each volume has beautifully illustrated endpapers with full page colour plates throughout. Overall a good set. Scarce in this edition.
