Hardback. Beautifully bound in rich green cloth with ornate floral detail to the front and spine. In very good condition with the gilt still bright and clean. Minor bumping to the base of the front board and light fading to the base of the rear board, nothing serious. All edges of the text block gilt and still bright. Internally the binding is tight with no loose pages. There is a previous owner's ink inscription to the verso of the frontispiece which has lightly seeped through to the frontispiece itself. Slight foxing to the prelims and to the rear otherwise the pages are very clean. Beautifully illustrated by Hugh Thomson. pp. xxx + 298 + 2. Overall a beautiful edition of Mrs Gaskell's novel.
