Second Edition, published in 1833 after Austen’s death. Soft leather half binding with rich marbled boards and bright gilt titles to the spine with double ruled gilt panels. Internally clean pages, the frontispiece and half title page vignette depicting classic scenes from the novel. Half title page has minor offsetting. Internal cracking despite the strong binding overall. This book belonged to contemporay fellow female author Marianne Spencer Stanhope Hudson who published the silver-fork novel 'Almack's' in 1826. Her personal bookplate affixed to the front pasted down endpaper. Rubbing to the boards with small rip the top of the spine, little rip to the bottom. Mild toning to the pages. "No English reissue of Austen's novels is known after 1818 until in 1832 Richard Bentley decided to include them in his series of Standard Novels. This copy bona fide according to David Gilson's 'A Bibliography Of Jane Austen' with vignette caption omitting the word 'ever' used in the original text on p.385. pp.435.Good overall. A rare second edition.
