Hardback. Complete in eight volumes bound as seven. Beautifully half bound in burgundy leather with marble paper sides. Each spine has five raised bands with gilt decorative tooling and two burgundy title bands. The binding is in very good condition despite a little rubbing and wear. Some of the gilt to the spines is a little faded. All edges and endpapers marble. The endpapers show no book plates or inscriptions although there are abrasion marks to the rear endpapers on Romola. Foxing throughout especially to the prelims and towards the rear. The pages however, are generally clean and beautifully illustrated. Adam Bede, pp. vi + 466. Mill on the Floss, pp. v + 486. Silas Marner, pp. 158, bound together with Scenes of Clerical Life, pp. 330. Felix Holt, pp. 430. Romola, pp. v + 504. Middlemarch, pp. viii + 621. Daniel Deroda, pp. 612. Overall an attractive set that would make the perfect gift or adornment for any bookshelf.
