This lovely hardback limited edition Franklin Library copy of "The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter" is beautifully bound in rich brown leather. The book is opulently decorated, with all-edge gilt, as well as gilt decorations, lettering, and illustrations on the cover and spine. This impeccable presentation continues inside the book, which has lovely mustard yellow silk endpapers, a satin ribbon page marker, and a playful use of brown and black ink for chapter titles and other interior decorations. Herbert Tauss' imaginative full-page black and gold ink illustrations add a sense of romance, and helps to ground the stories and their characters. This edition comprises the work of three earlier volumes: Flowering Judas and Other Stories (1935), Pale Horse, Pale Rider (1939), and The Leaning Tower and Other Stories. It also contains four previously uncollected short stories: The Downward Path to Wisdom, A Day's Work, Holiday, and The Leaning Tower. This book has 538 pages of text, and apart from some minor bumping, it is in near perfect condition, and its pages appear unread.
